From the publisher: Star Wars Adventures has joined the festivities with an exciting weekly series of comic books that explores all corners of the Star Wars universe, showing how choices both big and small ultimately shape the destinies of beloved characters, such as Princess Leia, Rey, Padme, Ahsoka, and Hera along with your soon-to-be favorites from The Last Jedi, Rose and Paige!

Our WTComics WeView: Is it enough to say a comic has “the best of intentions” or “the writer and artist did a competent job”? Before I get any further, let me say this comic isn’t meant to be read by me; It’s meant to be read by a much younger audience. Even considering the target audience (which I have to assume is tween girls), I can’t give this book an endorsement any better than “it’s harmless, and inoffensive”. Safe is the best way to describe this book, with its Disney approved art style and message infused writing… it’s just that safe. Obviously marketed to parents buying the book rather than the reader, I don’t think the story is going to connect with the reader it was supposedly meant for.

I absolutely hate speaking negatively about a book that has such positive messages. Self assurance, creativity and cooperation are all prominent themes in this comic and it is communicated effectively. Unfortunately, it’s missing any sort of danger (boring). Some people could say I’m being harsh on a relatively harmless book that’s aimed at an under-served audience, but what use are good intentions if the story is immediately forgotten. Young readers books are hard, and young readers books aimed at girls are harder, but that’s all the more reason to insist they don’t pander, and instead inspire.

Just so you don’t think me heartless, here are some books from my personal reading list that probably suit this demographic better: Unbeatable Squirrel-Girl, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and a parent can’t go wrong buying their kid a copy of Bone (Thorn is the best).

Rating: Very Good/Fine (VG/FN) or 5/10
